The Bennington Planning Board is authorized by State statute and Town meeting vote.

Principal activities of the Planning Board include:

  • Development and maintenance of the Town’s Master Plan
  • Anticipating and acting on the need for new plans, policies, and regulation changes, including preparing amendments to the Zoning Ordinance and holding the necessary Public Hearings on proposed or petitioned amendments to the Zoning Ordinance
  • Applying the Planning Board’s standards, regulations, and applicable sections of the Zoning Ordinance when reviewing and approving subdivisions, site plans, and earth excavations

The Planning Board holds one meeting a month to hear and decide on all development applications and other business to come before the Board. This meeting is held on the second Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Conference Room at Town Hall. Other meetings may be called by the Chairman as needed. In addition to their monthly meeting, the Planning Board also holds a work session on the fourth Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Conference Room at Town Hall to work on revising administrative rules, standards, and regulations.
