2007 Tax Rate is $21.24
The Department of Revenue Administration has set the 2007 tax rate at $21.24, representing an overall increase of $.25 or 1.2%.
As you can see from the comparison of the 2006/2007 tax rates below, the combined School portions of the tax rate decreased $.56, the County tax increased $.11, and the Town portion increased $.70. The Town’s increase can be attributed to increased costs for wages and benefits, police, fire, highway, transfer station costs, and ZBA legal expenses. Current Use Change taxes and Rooms and Meals funding increased between 2006 and 2007, helping draw in more revenue. However, in 2006 the Town was able to accept revenues from the closing of the Forestry Truck Capital Reserve Fund and from the sale of Town property. These “lost” revenues, coupled with a reduction in Highway Block Grant funding helped attribute to the Town’s increase in 2007.
